Sen Yu garment factory workers have returned to work following the signing of a bilateral agreement, as nearly all of their demands were addressed, according to the Federation of General Workers Myanmar (FGWM).

"An agreement was signed yesterday, most of the demands were accepted, and work resumed as usual today," said a member of FGWM.

Both employers and workers signed a nine-point agreement, with representatives from both the factory management and the workers affixing their signatures.

On April 23, workers at Sen Yu Myanmar garment factory staged a walkout to demand equal pay for holidays and reopening days.

Following this, workers additionally demanded an increase of 11,000 kyats in daily wages, the setting of 2,300 kyats as overtime pay, 60,000 kyats as attendance bonus, and the establishment of the “Grade” bonus between 40,000 and 100,000 kyats. They also requested that regular working hours be limited to six and a half hours, daily shifts to end at 4:30 p.m. without being called for overtime, and that factory supervisors and leaders refrain from rude or abusive behavior. In case of such misconduct, they urged that effective action be taken in accordance with the EC agreement.

These demands were presented by the workers to both the factory management and officials from the Township Labour Office who visited the factory. Later, a mutual agreement was reached, and workers returned to their workplaces, according to an FGWM member.

Sen Yu factory is located on Banmaw Atwin Wun Road, Shwe Lin Ban Industrial Zone, Hlaing Thar Yar Township, Yangon. It is a Chinese national-owned factory producing for brands such as REDTAPE, NAUTICA, and Piazzaitalia.
