Workers from newly opened Chinese national owned NKM garment factory which locates at East Dagon Industrial Zone said that the female manager is verbally abusing the female workers in the factory. The factory has been operating only for a few months.
“A Chinese national woman own the factory. The manager woman who verbally abuse us is Burmese,” the workers said.
The factory is newly open and operating with around 200 workers. There is neither trade union or workplace coordination committee in the factory. It also don’t have their own brands but manufacturing orders from other factories.
“She swears us when we go to the restroom. Actually, she is an employee too but keep oppressing us,” the workers said.
The mentioned lady is in her 40s and she controlled the whole factory making the workers unable to report her actions. Workers said that makes them suffer physically and emotionally.
“She verbally abuse in front of everyone. We don’t even want to eat or work in such days,” said the workers.
She also intimidate the workers that their wages for day offs will be cut if they resign. Furthermore, the working hours start at 7:30 but she force the workers to start 5 minutes before and treated the same for the 30 minutes of lunch time.
“We have to eat quickly, sometimes we even have to difficulty swallow water as the food stuck in the throat,” said a worker.
The factory denied their leaves accesses so their wages, attendance bonuses, expert fees are cut for taking a single day off and asking for a gate pass cost all of their wages and benefits for that day too.
“Everything is cut if we take leave. We lost 50,000 to 60,000 for not coming to work just for a day. They cut wages and benefits for a day if we take half day gate pass for emergency reasons. Those who get expert fees would have more causalities as they cut expert fees and attendance fees too.
According to the information Myanmar Labour News have received, workers from NKM Apparel Manufacturing Co.,Ltd garment factory get paid 6,800 kyats highest and 6,000 kyats lowest for the daily wages. The expert fees are given from A+ level 60,000 kyats to C level 20,000 kyats.
The factory locates at No(140/A), near U Tun Myat Bus Stop, Ka Naung Min Gyi Street, East Dagon Township.
