More than 400 workers from Tianjin Fashion Milestone Garment have staged a work stoppage to demand an increase in their basic wages, according to reports.

The factory is Chinese national-owned and located on Seikkan Thar Road, Shwe Lin Ban Industrial Zone, Hlaing Thar Yar Township, Yangon Region.

Workers are calling for a fair daily wage in line with current economic conditions and a corresponding increase in overtime (OT) rates based on the new wage.

“We’re demanding a base wage of 13,000 kyats and a matching overtime rate,” one worker said.

The factory employs around 1,000 workers across two buildings and manufactures the VERO MODA brand.

Workers are currently receiving only 8,800 kyats in combined daily and allowance pay, which they say is insufficient to meet their basic living needs.

They also reported poor workplace conditions, including harsh treatment from supervisors who shout at workers, one-sided production targets that are unreasonably enforced, forced overtime on Sundays without rest days, and a clinic that lacks basic medicine — all of which have made the work environment increasingly difficult.
