Workers at Tainjin Fashion Milestone garment factory who contributed in monthly social security are losing their benefits

Workers from at Tainjin Fashion Milestone garment factory said that they are visiting private clinics for health issues because the factory doesn’t provide them social security cards although they contributed monthly for it.

“We paid monthly for social security fees but we don’t get the benefits. The factory denies to provide the social security card by saying that they are being busy,” a worker who doesn’t get the card said.

Pregnant workers are having difficulties for healthcare provisions due to not having social security cards.

A female worker who faced miscarriage in the factory wasn’t provide social security card although they paid for it and allowed only 3 day offs. The social security law stated that 6 weeks leave must be provided for miscarriage but the mentioned worker had to work after a recent miscarriage.

Th pregnant workers are also having difficulties in transportation as they have to stand up in the bus.

“Outsiders are allowed to sit in the front seat and pregnant workers are standing at the back. The all super sit in the front seat in Thadarphyu cars while pregnant women stand at the back. It is not even appropriate to see as a third person,” they said.

Workers said that the factory doesn’t provide employment contract for workers with more than a year of service and workplace coordination committee can’t be asked for help on workplace violations.

“There are many cases where we submit letters to WCC for help but we never get help. WCC never implement assistance for us. We want them to be able to rely,” a female worker stated.

Workers said they want the WCC to be reformed and implement the terms and conditions they negotiated.

Tainjin Fashion Milestone factory locates at the intersection of Seikan Thar and Kannar Road, Shwe Lin Ban Industrial Zone, Hlaing Thar Yar Township and manufacturing Sinsay, Vero Moda brand apparls with more than 1,400 workers.
