Garment workers from Myanmar Postarion located in Shwepyithar Industrial Zone 1, Yangon Region, are making demands for wage increases.

Although there are around 1,000 workers at the workplace, it is reported that only over 500 of them are participating in the demand.

"Some workers are staying away from the demand because they fear the employer and supervisors. We want them to participate because success depends on collective unity," said one of the participants in the demand.

The demands include a daily wage of 13,000 kyats, attendance bonus of 60,000 kyats, and 2,500 kyats for each hour of overtime.

Currently, more than 500 workers have stopped working to demand a wage increase, and it is reported that no negotiations have taken place yet.

The currently set minimum wage is no longer enough for factory workers’ basic needs due to rising commodity prices and living costs, resulting in growing demands for a basic wage increase.
