Wonderful Apparel garment workers’ rights being violated

Workers from Wounderful Apparel Co,Ltd which located at Han City Power Street, Myaung Takar Industrial Zone, Mawbe said that their rights are being violated. 

The working hours of the factory are from 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and they are being called mid-night and all-night mandatory overtime without being informed in advanced. 

Workers said there are only around 200 workers left in the workplace as they don’t get any type of leaves and the workers dismiss them for taking more than 2 day of social security leave for health issues.

They are cut daily wages 4,800 kyats, stipend of 1,000 kyats and the attendance bonus 20,000 kyats; a total of 25,800 kyats although in informed to take leave by phone call. Moreover, they were held grudges and treated with malice. 

Workers said that their difficulties are not being provided medicines in the factory’s clinic, the manager always present at the clinic which makes them don’t dare to go, being asked excessive fabric outputs, forced to sew alone for the amount that two people have to do, pressured to get 90 fabric per hour which they can only makes 40, for a cavity with 19 people including the super, the fabrics are difficult to make, not being allowed to go to the restroom or drink water. 

“The supervisors verbally abusing us daily for not getting the output target they set unfairly. The Chinese woman usually intimidate the workers to leave for any inconveniences. The line supers forced workers to make fabric which the expert worker who get grade A level expertise can’t even make. The supervisors and managers scold the workers if we can’t make good fabrics. They are oppressing the workers in many ways,” said a worker.

The factory is owned by a Chinese national and operating with more than 200 workers. It is also known that the factory manufactures Japanese ordered TROLLKIDS, OCHNIK, balapala, CUH and ENCUENTRO brand jackets.

The workers said their appeals are

- To ask only the possible fabric output that inline with a individual worker’s productivity

- To allow legal leaves

- The supervisors not to verbally abuse the workers, the nurse to present at the clinic

- The employer to inform the workers in advanced about the overtime
