Workers from WAN HE SHUO FASHION Co., Ltd, a garment factory located at the intersection of U Pho Hlaing Road and Min Gyi Maha Min Khawng Road in Shwe Pyi Thar Industrial Zone (3), Insein Township, Yangon, were reportedly made to work overnight without receiving overtime pay.
According to workers who spoke to the Confederation of Trade Unions in Myanmar (STUM), the factory manager Daw Khin Myat Thu and the HR manager informed the workers that they would be required to work overtime on the evening of April 30, around 4 p.m., but would not be paid for it.
Workers from all seven sewing lines, including assistants and daily wage workers, were reportedly kept to continue packing unfinished garments from the cutting and sewing sections late into the night under the pretext of workload, without compensation.
In addition, workers claimed that assistant and daily wage workers were subjected to verbal abuse from line supervisors for not meeting production targets.
Though WAN HE SHUO FASHION is a ticket-based wage factory, workers report that unreasonable production demands, shouting, and verbal abuse are common, and that they are often required to come in on Sundays to rework garments without pay.
The factory employs approximately 600 workers and is known to manufacture Sinsay brand.
