Workers at the True Green factory demanded an increase from the minimum wage of 6,800 kyats to a daily wage of 10,000 kyats due to rising commodity prices causing hardship in meeting basic living needs. It is reported that an agreement was reached to pay 8,000 kyats as the daily wage.

At the plastic pallets manufacturing factory operated by True Green Co., Ltd in the industrial zone of Shwepyithar Township, workers had negotiated for:

  1. An increase of the daily wage to 10,000 kyats.
  2. They also negotiated for the attendance bonus (30,000 kyats) to be deducted in two parts—15,000 kyats for absence within the first 15 days, and another 15,000 kyats for absence within the latter 15 days.

They failed to reach a resolution although six negotiation rounds were held at the township level. The matter was then escalated to the regional-level coordination and arbitration committee. Four EC leaders were dismissed by the factory, prompting workers to stage a four-day work stoppage in protest during this ongoing negotiation process.

“Following the protest, on the evening of 23-5-2025, the factory agreed to pay a daily wage of 8,000 kyats, and both employer and workers were able to sign a mutual agreement,” according to a statement released by Solidarity Trade Union of Myanmar, STUM.
