Workers from Tianjin Fashion Milestone garment factory said the factory manager promised a bonus if garment production targets were met, but after completing the required targets, the bonus was not given and workers were instead threatened.
“The factory manager told us we would get a bonus if we reached the garment target. We reached the target, but then the manager said the bonus couldn’t be given. We reported it to the WCC and even to HR, but nothing was resolved,” workers said.
Workers added that line supervisors and managers verbally abuse them when targets aren’t met. And the factory manager failed to follow through on the promised bonus even when the targets are reached. Although they filed a complaint to the WCC, no action was taken, and workers were again threatened.
“Reporting to the WCC doesn’t help. They just threatened to cut our grade and deduct our wages. They said they would make supervisors work as line leaders again. Workers were told their grades would be reduced and wages would be cut,” they said.
Workers further stated that the WCC was taking bribes from the factory and that instead of helping, they were pressuring and threatening workers.
“We saw with our own eyes that after WCC meetings, money was being handed out,” they said.
Workers also said they were being forced to do overtime, and those who refused were treated unfairly and threatened with grade demotions by management.
In February 2024, the factory manager at Tianjin Fashion Milestone said that transport would not be arranged for workers who refused to do overtime. As a result, more than 300 workers had to walk home. In May 2025, workers held a protest inside the factory demanding an increase in daily wages and overtime pay.
The factory is located on Seik Kan Thar Road, Shwe Lin Ban Industrial Zone, Hlaing Tharyar Township, Yangon Region, and manufacture brands such as VERO MODA, Colin’s, LCWaikiki, LCW MODEST, and Arnold Palmer.
