It was reported in the stated owned newspaper on October (27) that Workplace and Labor Law Inspection Department conducted educational discussions on labor law rights, workplace safety and health issues using mobile vehicles.

But the workers said that there are many violations of the rights of the labor law in the workplaces and , factories in various townships in practice and the relevant departments are ignoring these situations although they are filling complaints.

“They have authority to take action but they stand with the employer and can’t negotiate. They told us to file a case if we are not satisfied but that is not easy for a worker to processed. If a worker goes to the department to file a complaint, the factory already know who complaint before they arrive back, This is the current situation,” said a former trade union member.

Workers complain about situations of their rights being violated to the relevant department but the employers seem to know in advance before the inspection and pre-train some workers to lie the inspectors.

“They only inquire the workers who the employer pre-trained. The employer taught those workers to say that everything is fine. It is impossible that they don’t know the violations but they themselves don’t care the labour rights,” said a female worker from garment industry.

The officials of the Ministry of Labor often stand with the employers since after the coup d’état, In addition, there are claims by the victims that labour authorities only blame the workers without solving the problem according to the law.

The Workplace and Labor Law Inspection Department of the Ministry of Labour said that they are educating labour rights by investigating workplace incidents, forming workplace safety and healthcare committees, measuring workplace situations and using assistant vehicles.

The factories are causing grievances to workers’ social life by calling excessive overtime that exceeds the legal limit, illegally dismissing, denying legal benefits, sexually harassing, exploiting and ignoring workers health but the township labour departments take almost no actions.
