Workers from Tha Shu (Myanmar) Glory Fashion garment factory said that they are working continuously for 7 hours without a break.

“We have to work from 12:30 pm to 7:00 pm continuously without break or a snack. Workers feel hungry,” a worker said.

The factory monitored workers who has gastric and flatulence disease and they have to sign and a warning if they are found eating. In the labor law enacted in Myanmar, it is stated that there is no right to force workers to work more than 5 hours in a row.

Workers said that they filed to relevant departments in the last month for not providing enough dinning space and purified water, not allowing workers to take private water bottle and opening only a door which makes workers work in very hot condition.

The workers said that the factory did not prepare the facts they complained about, even though the officials of the labor office came to inspect it.

“Workers sick as it is raining outside and feeling hot in the factory. 4 inspectors came and nothing had changed. The dinning room is still not fitting, we are still working in hot condition without purified water and the supervisors are still verbally abusing us,” workers said.

The factory ask 40 fabric piece per hour for a machine line and workers from the lines that can’t finish are verbally abused.

“Those 4 supers from front-lines swear too much including the all super and manager. I don’t know how the victims would feel but even I feel sorry as a passive witnesser,” a worker said.

Tha Shu (Myanmar) Glory Fashion garment factory is owned by a Chinese national and operating with around 1,200 workers and 15 machine lines.
