Workers from Textile Palace 2 factory said that their factory gives their seniority fees only after three years instead of annually without their consents.

“This system only gives for 2 years even if we reach 3 years. They said the 1 year fee is deposited. They should give annually according to the law. We want our money after a year,” the workers said.

The 1951 Leave and Holiday Act stated that “Factory should provide workers who work for 12 months continuously the average salary or 10 consecutive holidays within the next 12 months.”

The factory hires around 700 workers and located at Industrial Street, Myaung Takar Industrial Zone, Mawbe Township, Yangon region. The workers are having concerns regarding their rights as the factory doesn’t sign the employment contract after working for a year.

“The veteran workers get the employment contract only after 1 year and the new workers haven’t sign after working for nearly 1 year,” they said.

Chapter (3) Section 5 of the Employment and Skill Development Law; Subsection (a)(1) stipulates that an employer must sign an employment agreement (EC) within 30 days of hiring an employee.

Textile Palace 2 garment factory is co-owned by Chinese and Myanmar national and workers said the factory is operating under the name of the Myanmar national. The factory manufactures Sinsay, GEMO, Suivez Nous and Trollkids brands apparals.
