Workers from SUNTIME JCK CO,LTD which locates at Than Chat Wun U Nyunt Street, Industrial Zone 2, Shwe Pyi Thar Township, Yangon region said that they are having workplace difficulties and seeking resolvents upon the matters.
The workers said that not all workers are being entitled to the legal benefits and they are facing discriminations such as some workers are not allowed to take leave and cut their daily wages and attendance bonus.
“Not all workers are entitled to legal benefits of the workers. Some workers are not allowed to take leave, daily wages 5,600 kyats and attendance bonus 9,000 kyats are cut for missing a day of work. It’s a huge loss for the workers. The workers are cut by the hours count if they take leave after they have arrived to work for family and health issues,” said a worker who don’t want to be named.
The factory is owned by a Chinese national and the foreigners are directly managing the workers in the workplace and all supers and supers are also verbally abusing the workers who are asked for the impossible fabric outputs.
There are 50 to 56 people in a cavity and each cavity is asked for at least 45 fabric per hour which is 450 fabric pieces for 10 working hours including 2 hours of overtime which makes the workers to work without even taking a water break.
“They set unfair outputs and some all supers treat the workers rudely and pressurized. We don’t even have time to use restrooms or drink a water as we have to manufacture 450 fabric piece per hour and each worker are assigned to sew 2 or 3 points at the same time,” the worker said.
They are also having difficulties regarding the drinking water as they can’t even drink when the temperature is high in the afternoon. The workers are seeking resolvents upon the issue.
There is no trade union committee to address the workplace issues in a factory with more than 1,000 workers and a workplace coordination committee is formed but it can’t resolve anything and only inform the workers the employer’s instructions.
The factory is manufacturing Plexx and ENGELBERT STRAUSS brand jackets.
