Sunrise Myanmar Fashion Garment factory labours requested to state the legal labour rights as those are being violated in the factory which is manufacturing international brands.

The labours from the factory which locates in Jade Street, Thar Du Kan Industrial 4, Shwe Pyi Thar Township, Yangon said that they are facing the violations such as summoning the overtime which if not would cause grade bonus reduction without their wills, not giving a break time during the overtime, no ferry service for overtime workers, demanding quite much high standards which they forced to work during the overtime without benefits if the target isn’t reached, grade level reduction for taking a leave and the cavity leader using in profanities in the workplace.

The labours also stated that the factory is owned by a Chinese citizen and operating with over 1000 labour force. Brands such as GLOBAL WORK, WOLLYTEC, CINEMA CLUB, HARE, LEPSIL, URBAL FUNCTION , SINCE 1930 UNITED ATHLA, FINO-OUT, LOWRYS FARM, AIRTHERMAL are manufactured there.

It is also known that although it is operating with over 1000 labour power, no trade union is formed. It is said that WCC exist but the details about the members are unknown so that there is no one to negotiate and solve the labour issues within the workplace.

Responsible labour offices are reported through phone call about the overtime issue and the individuals responsible from Shwe Pyi Thar labour office came to encounter the owner but nothing about the overtime is changed and they have to continue working as before.

“The working hours are from 8:00 AM to 19:00 PM including 2 and a half hours of overtime. But these days overtime ranges until 21:00 PM or 0:00 AM too. There were no surveys upon the labours at the days with overtime. We are obligated to work. But there were no snacks and fast foods provided during the overtime and no snack break too.”, an anonymous labour stated the difficulties.

A dissatisfied labour said that “They are cheating by demanding the standards more than we can do firstly which is almost impossible. Then summoning overtime without wages to reach those standards. But they demanded unfairly demands the standards priorly.”

The labour also said that it was announced that those who don’t work overtime and those who take leaves would be reduced for grade bonus and discriminations exist too.

“Taking a leave which is a labour right is not allowed. We aren’t dare to take a leave because of reduction for any reason of leave. We afraid the income would be lower and taking a leave cause criticism.”, said by the labour.

Although labours work for livelihood, they can’t take a leave for health issues while working overtime almost every day. Furthermore, it would be unease to demand the labour rights due to the political situations.

Therefore, it is noted that the labours request the followings:

1. To survey the labours desires if overtime exists.

(a) Those who can’t work overtime should have the rights to refuse and not to reduce the grades for them.

(b) To allow a break time if they summon overtime.

(d) The employer to provide a meal or snack if the overtime ranges to 21:00P PM or after 21:00 PM, which is more than 2 hours normally.

(e) To provide ferries for overtime workers.

(f) To pay the overtime wages according to the law for any reason of summoning.

2. To demands the cloth standards within the range of labours can make. To negotiate.

3. Not to reduce the grades for taking a leave.

4. The responsible leaders to not use in profanities within the workplace.
