“We don’t get casual and medical leaves even for health issues and parents’ funerals. They dismiss us by labeling as absent if we miss a day due to illness. 7,200 kyats from daily wages and subsidy, 30,000 kyats attendance bonus and expert fees are cut proportionally for absent. Thus, we lost 40,000 kyats for an absent.

The factory have significant requirements in safety measures, drinking water and sanity of the restrooms.

Only day laborers who the employer favor are appointed as permanent stuffs after working for three months.

“The employer appoint those they favor permanent stuffs. Those who they don’t favor are day laborers. The output demands are also asked unfairly. A production line with 60 people including the supervisors and helpers are asked for 30 garments per hour. Therefore, it is difficult to meet the standards. The supervisors verbally abuse the workers to get the fabric outputs,” said a worker.

The worker are demanding for legal leave benefits, possible fabric output demands, to appoint permanent stuffs after working 3 months as day laborers, to not verbally abuse and to provide maintenance for the restrooms and drinking water.
