We are workers currently employed at SHUN YU (MYANMAR) Garment Co., Ltd. We are writing because we are being threatened in the workplace. There are also other urgent issues that we need to report.

The factory is located on Kanon Min Gyi Road, Shwelinban Industrial Zone, Hlaingthaya Township, Yangon City. It is owned by Chinese citizen and manufacture the Sinsay, Max, and Amisu brands. There are around 200 workers.

The factory workday starts at 7:30 a.m. Lunch break is at 12:00 noon, followed by a one-hour break before work resumes. At 4:00 p.m. there is another one-hour break, and from 4:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. we are required to work overtime.

When we say that we cannot work overtime because of important personal matters, supervisors threaten us by saying they will cut our piece-rate pay, bonuses, and grade pay, and they pressure us to comply.

We are pressured to meet production targets during overtime. When the factory has no orders of its own, it takes subcontracted work from other factories and forces us to work overtime.

If production targets are not met, supervisors scold and curse at us. Some workers have quit because they cannot endure this abuse, and there have also been cases where workers were dismissed without being paid compensation.

Since the beginning of 2026, we have not been granted medical leave, maternity leave, paternity leave, emergency leave, service leave, bereavement leave, or social leave. The excuse given is that there is no HR manager, and no one takes responsibility for resolving these leave issues. This has caused serious social hardship for us and legal losses as well.

There is a water purification machine installed at the factory, but drinking water is insufficient. When the water supply is cut, the water is no longer purified and we are forced to drink only the stored water. Despite our earlier requests, there is still no dedicated clinic or rest room. When workers feel dizzy, fall ill, or are injured, we constantly face difficulties.

Even though the government has announced an increase in subsidies, the factory has not increased them. The additional 1,000 kyats was merely renamed under a different heading. Our original daily wage was 10,500 kyats, and even after the subsidy increase was announced, we still receive only 10,500 kyats. With current commodity prices, this is completely insufficient.

When we complete one full year of service, the factory does not pay annual leave wages for 10 days according to the stipulated daily wage. The factory’s standard daily wage is 10,500 kyats. Although it was said that payment would be made according to the original daily wage, it was later deducted. There was no prior notice about this deduction. For 10 days of annual leave, we were paid only 78,000 kyats.

We want these issues to be resolved smoothly and fairly. We sincerely ask for help.
