Sayan Outdoor Garment Factory Reduces Wages

We would like to raise a concern regarding Sayan Outdoor Co., Ltd garment factory. The factory initially promised to pay a daily wage of 10,000 kyats when recruiting workers. However, it is now saying that those who have not worked for a full 15 days will only receive 4,800 kyats as daily wage and 2,000 kyats as government subsidy—totaling only 6,800 kyats.

Due to operational needs, the factory sometimes closes on weekdays and requires workers to make up for the lost days on Saturdays by working until 6:30 PM.

They also initially promised to pay helper workers the same 10,000 kyats as regular sewing operators, but now they say helpers will only be paid 9,000 kyats.

Additionally, they said they will deduct 10,000 kyats if a worker takes a gate pass and exceeds half an hour. There are around 200 workers at the factory, which is a garment factory. The factory has not yet been operating for three months, and there is no established Workplace Coordination Committee (WCC), so we don’t know whom to report this issue to.

The factory is located in Thein Chaung Road, Wataya Industrial Zone. The wages according to the factory’s job announcement are: daily wage – 4,800 kyats, government subsidy – 2,000 kyats, factory snack allowance – 3,200 kyats, overtime wage – 1,200 kyats, OT snack allowance – 800 kyats, attendance bonus – 40,000 kyats, Grade bonus – A+ 100,000 kyats, A 80,000 kyats, B 50,000 kyats, C 30,000 kyats)
