#Letter

Please kindly publish this letter. I am from the Myanmar RUIXIN Shoes factory.

We have been working OT (overtime) continuously without a single day off since last month. We are forced to sign the OT forms for Sunday. They scold us if we refuse to sign. We have to work until 7:30 PM even on Saturdays.

On payday, when we are supposed to collect our salaries at 5:00 PM, they delay it until 6:30 PM and then call us back to work.

Even the bathrooms don’t have soap unless there is an inspection, and that’s the only time they provide it. When inspections happen, they also suspend OT and tell us to say that the factory closes every week for a day off. In reality, we don’t want to work OT, but we are being forced to.

Please help us. We have to work OT every day. Our working hours are from 7:30 AM to 7:30 PM, even on Saturdays. On Sundays, we have to work until 5:00 PM, and if we refuse, they reprimand us.

We have not had a single day off until now. We would like Saturdays working hours to be only until 5:00 PM and Sundays off.

There are a lot of workers in the factory.

Our salary is only about 500,000 MMK per month even if we work every day, including Sundays. It would be better if they could pay us directly for Sundays. But if we didn’t have to work Sundays, that would be even better.

We are given 20,000 MMK attendance bonus, with an additional 10,000 MMK as a skill allowance.

We would like the daily rates to be on par with those of other factories. Many employees have already left because they couldn’t handle working OT all the time.

They don’t let us leave early on payday. We don’t get a break even on full moon days and national holidays. We want Sundays to be regular off days.

We also want them to let us go around 4:00 PM on payday.

Buses start picking us up at around 6:00 AM in the mornings,, and by the time we get home at night, it’s already late. Everyone is exhausted.

Without rest days, it becomes even worse. Nobody wants to work, and if we refuse, they scold us and threaten that we won’t be allowed to work in the future.

We also want them to provide soap in the bathrooms.

The factory is located at (E6-8), Mya Sabal Road, Mya Sein Yaung Industrial Zone, Hlaing Thar Yar Township. We manufacture S.Oliver, Jana and Scarebella brands.

From,
A Worker.
