The Ministry of Labour has announced via its official Safe Migration Telegram channel that Overseas Worker Identification Cards (OWIC) for workers planning to go abroad legally will resume issuance on April 8.

OWIC card issuance had been temporarily suspended without prior notice since the second week of February. The ministry has now declared that services will recommence on April 8.

Since March 18, those seeking to apply for OWIC cards must submit required documents through the post office to the Department of Labour Headquarters in Nay Pyi Taw. The list of approved applicants has been released, confirming that they will receive their cards on April 8.

Individuals planning to work overseas as skilled workers under their own arrangements are scheduled to attend training on April 7 and are expected to obtain their OWIC cards on April 8 according to Safe Migration.

Additionally, a list of approved returnee workers planning to go abroad again has been issued, with instructions for them to collect their OWIC cards on April 8.

The ministry also stated that it would aim to allow weekly approvals for card issuance moving forward to assist migrant workers facing hardship following the recent earthquake.
