Open Letter to the Factory Owner of Sioen Myanmar

We are notifying to the factory. We are a group of QC workers currently employed at the Sioen Myanmar Garment Factory located in Hlaingtharyar Industrial Zone 2.

First and foremost, we would like to sincerely thank you for creating a workplace that is well-organized, systematic, and provides fair and timely wages and benefits. We are genuinely happy to be working here, and we would like to continue working long-term at this factory. The standard working hours—from 8 AM to 6:30 PM, and only until 4:30 PM on Saturdays—also allow us to spend more time with our families, which we really appreciate.

However, we are currently facing some difficulties, particularly concerning the actions and behaviors of our QC Manager and QC Supervisor.

The QC Supervisor often abuses her authority and treats us harshly. She uses emotionally damaging language, saying things like, “I can get you fired if I speak up,” or, “Even if someone teaches you, you won’t learn.” These words have hurt us and created a stressful working environment.

Although we are B Grade workers, we are frequently made to take on responsibilities meant for A Grade worker—without any proper guidance or training. Instead of explaining things clearly, we are simply told, “Just do it right,” or “Get it done no matter what.”

We are also being forced to memorize large amounts of irrelevant English terms and phrases that have nothing to do with our factory work. We came here to inspect garments, not to learn English at school.

Furthermore, the QC Supervisor frequently reports both true and false claims about us to the QC Manager. The manager believes everything she says and often calls us in to reprimand us, issue warnings, and make us sign warning letters.

On top of that, they also reduce our grade levels as a form of punishment. Since we are already at B Grade, any further demotion seriously affects us.

The workplace environment has become increasingly unpleasant because of all this. We want to continue working at this factory for the long term, so we are hoping that, by making you aware of this situation, you might be able to help resolve it.
