Victims said that there are fake job offers and money scams that will connect people who need jobs through social networks with fake companies’ recruitment.

These financial scams have been around for a long time and are now on the rise. Since the beginning of the Covid period, the domestic unemployment rate has increased. Due to the decrease in recruitment, fake job offers and scams become more common.

''I found it online. The job was a WiFi company posting that I had to work at on call service. So, I contacted them. As they said, I submitted the forms and they asked me to pay a service fee of 5,000 MMK. They have not answered the phone since then. When I called back, the announced phones were turned off. That's when I knew I was being scammed,'' said a job seeker living in Shwe Pyi Thar Township.

Currently, there are many online services to find and connect with job opportunities, and there are more scammers than ever.

In this fraud, the amount of money is paid from five thousand to tens of thousands of kyat, and victims are given an incentive to pay an additional percentage if they get the job, and the job application is accepted online scamming the money.

In addition to this, job seekers need to be aware that there are some scammers who sell job applications for 5,000 kyats and saying that they will find a job, accept the CV form and cut off contact.

''I don't want to work in a factory. I prefer that because I can find a job online. At first, I don't think he's a liar because he posted it in the care. Now I know that there are lies. I myself have not been cheated yet. You have to be careful. I'll believe it before,'' said a person trying to find a job.

According to the Ministry of Labor, there are 80 licensed employment agencies in the country.

Employers also connect with agencies to find workers. They are working on recruiting workers through job fairs and posting job advertisements in job search journals.

“There are labor offices that call for workers with advertisements. For factories, notices are posted at the factory entrance. Employees are informed. Also, there are job fairs and calls. You need to be careful when you see a recruitment from online. Some of them posted old posts and called back. There are some who misuse the company's name and make fake job offers,'' said a labor activist.

Domestically, there are very few complaints about fake job offers and online financial scams, and awareness of these processes is also weak.
