Myanto Industrial garment factory violating the labor rights

Workers from Myanto Industrail CO.Ltd said that there are many right violations upon them in the factory including not providing comfortable access of drinking water during the hot season which workers need enough drinking water.

The Chinese national owned factory locates at Mya Khatter Street, Mya Sein Yaung Industrial Zone, Hlaing Thar Yar Township, Yangon Region and manufacturing October and AMISU brands with more than 600 workers.

The factory doesn’t have a trade union but it has a workplace coordination committee which does not resolve the workplace disputes. The factory hires day laborers and dismiss them without any valid reason saying only that they will be hired again if need which cause the day laborers damages.

“There are many violations in our factory. They ask many fabric output demands such as 30 fabric and 40 shirts per hour for a cavity with 30 or 40 people not counting the absent ones. We can’t finish due to imbalance workforce and tasks. The all super and the Chinese national woman who is the factory manager verbally abuse us and discriminate the workers who can’t finish and tell them to leave. The supers from line 4 and 6 even force the pregnant workers to give the same outputs as others. 

The legal leaves are denied and emergency casual leave is not permitted even if the workers inform the factory via telephone. Daily wages 5,800 kyats, attendance bonus 20,000 kyats and expert fees are cut for taking a day of leave.

Workers have to continue working even if they have health issues as the factory doesn’t grant them gate pass to visit the clinic. The expert fees are 60,000 kyats for A++, 50,000 kyats for A+, 40,000 kyats for A, 30,000 kyats for B and 20,000 kyats for C but the ones who are the real experts do not get paid on the highest level but just on the lowest one.

“There is no clinic in our factory except when the inspector came. There is also drinking water shortage and we have to wait to that. The weather is too hot,” the workers said.

The workers said that they are seeking for resolvent upon the violations. Their details request are the Chinese woman and supervisors not to verbally abuse, to ask only the possible fabric output, to not count those who absent in asking fabric outputs by machine lines, to give fair expert fees to the real proficient workers, to provide enough drinking water in the hot season.
