Workers who collectively demanded at Tay Hone Shan Chain garment factory, Industrial Zone 4, Yin Jang, Yunan, Peoples’ Republic of China said that they failed to negotiate the 5 facts they asked on March 17.

“The employer told us to go back to work on that day but we came back to the dormitories. The employer said they would negotiate with the workers’ leaders but no one dared to be labeled as leaders so they said they call a meeting with supers and all supers but it wasn’t happened. The workers have to came back to work at March 18. The employer would lessen the monthly transportation fees for 100 Yuan (300 Yuan to 200 Yuan) which is the third fact we asked but they would not negotiate the other facts. So that the workers who could accept the decisions would continue working there and those who couldn’t came back to Myanmar,” said a worker.

The Myanmar garment workers requested that to pay them overtime wages if they have to work exceeding the working hours (8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.), to give 1,600 Yuan as a basic salary, not to cut monthly transportation fee 300 Yuan, to give an off day at every Sunday and to provide a meal.

The factory called the police on March 17 when the demands started and threated them that they would hand them to the police and send back to Myanmar if they refuse to go back to the workplace.

There are more than 1,000 Myanmar workers working at the NANIREN brand manufacturing factory, according to the New Light Federation, Myanmar trade union(NLF_Myanmar).
