#Letter
We are workers from Myanmar Belle International Co., Ltd. On January 9, we collectively submitted 12 demands to the factory, including a request for wage increases.
Both sides reached an agreement and signed a contract based on those demands. However, up to now, the factory has failed to implement several of the agreed points. These include providing clinic facilities, renovating the dining hall, arranging adequate seating, and repairing the factory’s emergency exits and ventilation fans.
Officials from the relevant labour office said they would come to inspect the situation and help ensure implementation, but they have not visited to this day. Meanwhile, factory management has tightened its control over workers even further.
Workers who speak up about labour rights issues are being monitored and dismissed. Management takes action by forcing workers to sign warning letters whatever the issue may be.
Even missing a single day of work results in being made to sign a warning letter. Workers’ grades are reduced, wages are deducted, and warning letters are issued for absences. Various punitive measures are being imposed.
At the same time, the factory has not fulfilled the responsibilities it agreed to in the signed contract. There has been no action taken against the employer for failing to meet those obligations.
When workers report violations and unfair treatment by the employer, those who speak out are monitored, targeted, forced to sign warning letters, and dismissed from their jobs.
We wish to remind all parties that a signed agreement carries responsibility and accountability. We also want the relevant labour office to understand that it cannot turn a blind eye to this situation.
Myanmar Belle International Co., Ltd does not have a trade union or a Workplace Coordination Committee (WCC). Around 400 workers are affected and do not know where to turn for support.
Myanmar Belle International Co., Ltd is a Chinese-owned garment factory located on Myatharaphy Road in the Mya Sein Yaung Industrial Zone, Yangon. It is currently manufacturing the Sinsay brand.
