The workers from Myanmar Jiale Fashion Co.,Ltd 2 garment factory which locates at Shwe Lin Ban Industrial Zone, Hlaing Thar Yar Township, Shwe Pyi Thar had said that they haven’t received the January wages yet.

Every 5th day of the month is the last day to issue the workers’ salary according to the law. But the workers from the factory with more than 400 workers said that they are having difficulties as they have not been paid yet.

“They didn’t told us anything about the salary and didn’t paid although we waited until 20:00. The manager arrived at the next day and said they will pay only at 8th and also said those who are not satisfied don’t need to take. He throws the phones and got rampaged. They signed to give at 8th. Those who are less than 2 years of service are fired with compensation and the others are given only 50,000 kyats for the salary. They didn’t inform officially that they will give on 8th. They should inform the leaders even if they don’t want to inform the workers,” said the workers.

“Everyone has expenses. We have to give our dormitory fees on 5th no own would wait for us to pay. They have paid 50,000 kyats and more than 250,000 kyats are left,” they said.

The factory owner is a Chinese national and the Indonesian national GM didn’t inform about the delay of the salary until 8th February until the workers went to complaint.

“They should talked in the meeting clearly if they can’t give. They are on rampage and we don’t know what will happen more. He signed in front of us. He is an Indonesian national. We are confident with the previous manager but this manager always take adventage upon her partner being the from the Junta’s side by saying “You could bet who would win between the factory and you.” It’s too bad for us,” said the workers.

The workers said that Myanmar Jiale Fashion has two sub factories called 1 and 2 and the delay of salary is only happening on No. (2) as there are low number of orders which they are mainly depending on.

“There are no orders anymore. I think they are making us to resign ourselves as they don’t have the money for compensation. There are starting to fire the workers with less than 2 years of service. They are rampaging weather than closing the factory down if they couldn’t operate anymore. Everyone are working to earn. All of us are more than 3 years of service and they fired those with less than 2 years of service in December. There are 400 people left,” said the worker.

There is a workplace coalition committee in the workplace but does not address the workplace disputes.
The factory fired workers with less than 2 years of service recently and only more 400 workers with more than 3 years of service are left. They also went to the labor office to seek resolvent as the manager not treating fairly to the workers.
