Ministry of Labour Urged to Regulate Excessive Overtime

Due to nighttime transportation challenges, factories have been excessively demanding overtime work, prompting workers to urge the Ministry of Labor to step in and regulate such practices.

Currently, most factories and workplaces require daily overtime work, often extending to Sundays and public holidays without providing proper rest, according to reports.

"There’s overtime work every day. We can’t avoid it because of our livelihoods. But with ongoing conscription reports, going home late has become a source of constant worry. At least during this period, we hope the Ministry can impose some limits on overtime permissions," said a factory worker from Shwe Pyi Thar Industrial Zone.

Despite legal limits on overtime hours, the Ministry of Labor appears to have little oversight, allowing excessive overtime demands to go unchecked.

In addition, at FZ GARMENT CO., Ltd., workers reportedly face extreme overtime demands without receiving proper employment ID cards. As a result, those traveling on their own at late hours struggle to provide identification during military checkpoints, causing significant challenges.

With conscription reports spreading persistently, public anxiety has surged, further amplifying concerns among workers and citizens alike.
