Max Technology headphones factory workers asked to determine the bonus only with the expert fee as they are asked for excessive outputs and facing pay cuts. The factory locates at Than Din 19 intersection, Shwe Pyi Thar Township, Yangon.

“The inspectors come after we reported but nothing changed. We have to sign for the overtime in advance and sometimes we don’t have to work. They said they would dismiss if we could’t meet their hourly rates within 3 days. They asked 300 earphones per hour. Even the senior workers could make 150 per hour. The bonus are cut if we can’t finish. The workplace coordination committee follows their orders. We want to request that not to ask the impossible fabric outputs, the supervisors not to do only on their accord and to determine the bonus only with the expert fee instead of the hourly rate,” the worker said.

The workers at the factory have to come early for the meeting every day, and they are not allowed fully half an hour for a meal break, and the supervisors verbally abusing to the workers and charge if they use the restroom 3 times.

The workers are requesting to determine the bonus only with the expert fee instead of the hourly rate as the factory asked for impossible outputs and those who don’t finished are cut.

“We want the factory to call overtime only if they can give it and the working hours should be exactly from 8:00 to 4:30. The superiors not to verbally abuse and to give the full salaries. The hourly rates asked by them such as 200 strings per 6 minutes is even impossible for them and they told us that they will cut as if we can’t finish. They ask 1,000 pin points per hour and the maximum we could do is 800. They don’t give the daily wages of the workers those resigned,” a worker said.

The factory have been operating for only 6 months and working with 5 lines and more than 250 workers.
