Workers at Lita Myanmar Co., Ltd have reported to the Industrial Workers Federation of Myanmar (IWFM) that the factory is deducting previously earned overtime hours, citing Saturday off days as the reason, raising serious concerns about wage violations.

“They told us they’re giving us Saturdays off, but they don’t pay the basic wage for those days. Instead, they subtract the hours we already worked as overtime to make up for those Saturdays,” said a female sewing operator.

Workers also revealed that they are made to work overtime during major public holidays like Thadingyut and Tazaungdaing, yet have not received the 30,000 kyat monthly wage increment that was ordered by the Ministry of Labour.

“They told us we’re already receiving more than the previous 7,800 kyats when we asked about the 30,000 kyat increase, and they count that increase as already applied since we’re being paid 9,200 kyats,” one worker explained.

Despite working every day for an entire month without absence, workers said they are still unable to earn the full 500,000 kyat salary due to continuous deductions.

Workers reported a case in the ironing department where a supervisor with over ten years of service was fired after taking a leave request. “They dismissed her without following any legal process. She didn’t even receive compensation. Her leave request wasn’t granted, and it was counted as an absence,” they said.

Workers also noted that breaks and snack times before overtime hours are no longer allowed. “Now we don’t even get a snack before overtime. Workers are getting sick and experiencing stomach problems,” a worker said.

Deductions are reportedly high. Workers thy lose 20,000 kyats in basic wage and 9,200 kyats in daily wage if they worker misses one day. Missing two days results in a 40,000 kyat deduction, and workers may also be penalized up to 10,000 kyats for lateness, gate pass use, or delays.

Workers also allege that when the female factory owner is on-site, they are not allowed to drink water or leave their stations casually. “She walks around the factory all day. Workers are afraid to move. She yells at the supervisors if she hears us talking,” they said.

Serious accusations have also surfaced regarding security staff, with workers claiming that some guards have engaged in sexual harassment and unwarranted surveillance.

“They search our lunch boxes and bags when we enter. They even open our lunch containers. They touch our bodies and conduct full-body searches. From start to finish lunchtime to evening guards take our pictures, even near the toilets,” a worker recounted.

Lita Myanmar Co., Ltd is located in on Satsayar U Tun Road, Shwepyitha Industrial Zone (4), Insein Township, Yangon. The factory is owned by Chinese citizen and employs over 800 workers. It manufactures brands including Mandai, Tsdesign, Classico, and Servo.
