Workers at LAT WAR (3) Company Limited garment factory say that the factory has reduced wages for holiday periods. They reported to the Industrial Workers Federation of Myanmar (IWFM) that the April salary included a 2,000 kyat deduction from the Thingyan holiday wage.

“The factory gave us Thingyan holidays from April 12 to 21. But when the April salary was paid, they calculated holiday pay at only 6,800 kyats. It should have been 8,800 kyats,” the workers said.

According to the workers, on April 1, 2025, a factory official officially announced that the daily wage would be increased by 2,000 kyats—from 6,800 to 8,800 kyats—and that overtime pay would rise from 1,700 to 2,000 kyats per hour. Despite this announcement, the workers said the factory still paid only 6,800 kyats as holiday pay during Thingyan.

“The factory official said that since there was no work during the holidays, only 6,800 kyats would be paid, and not 8,800. The workers are not accepting this deduction. Since the officially announced daily wage was 8,800 kyats, they want the deducted amount returned. That’s 20,000 kyats per worker. for 10 days. This money could help cover meals and living expenses,” said one worker.

LAT WAR (3) Company Limited garment factory is a Chinese national-owned factory located on Seikkanthar Road, Industrial Zone (2), Hlaing Thar Yar Township, Yangon. Nearly 2,000 workers are employed at the factory, and according to the workers, they manufature KAPALUA, REGATA, MAVI CONIN’s, and some Japanese orders.

It is understood that there is no trade union established at the factory to raise workplace issues, only a WCC (Workplace Coordination Committee).
