We are workers from Juntai (Fu Yuan) Garment Co., Ltd, located in Mya Sein Yaung Industrial Zone. We want to speak out about the conditions inside our factory.
The factory constantly demands production targets that exceed what workers can realistically produce. No matter whether it is possible or not, we are pressured to meet them. Every time targets are set, supervisors shout at us and use abusive language.
Even if several workers are absent from a production line, the target is never reduced. Instead, it is increased.
There are also underage workers in the factory who are not suited for this type of work. The management requires them to work overtime alongside adult workers, without any special consideration or protections. They receive no additional rights or support as minors.
The factory’s toilets are in poor condition and lack proper security. Drinking water is unclean. Although the factory is large, there is no dining hall. Workers do not have a designated place to eat and must sit wherever they can find space.
When workers resign, the factory does not settle wages fairly. The daily wage is set at 12,000 kyats, but when leaving, workers are paid only 7,800 kyats per day. We worked the entire month under the agreed rate of 12,000 kyats. Having our wages reduced in this way feels like exploitation of our labor.
Every day we endure shouting and verbal abuse while working to meet the required targets. We fulfilled the production quotas demanded of us. Reducing our wages afterward is unfair.
There is no Workplace Coordination Committee (WCC) and no trade union in the factory to assist workers with grievances. Around 600 workers are employed here, and the factory is currently manufactures the AMISU brand.
We want the public to be aware of the shortcomings and exploitation taking place inside this factory.
