Discrimination in hiring and promotion, unfair dismissals, favoritism in leadership roles, neglect of worker difficulties)

#Letter

We would like to inform the responsible persons at J&F Myanmar LNY Caps Factory.

I am a worker at J&F Myanmar LNY Caps Factory (2), located behind Ocean supermarket, near Bogyoke bus stop, in Hlaingyharyar Industrial Zone (2).

The reason I am writing this letter is because the HR Manager at our factory is practicing serious discrimination in the workplace. These actions have become deeply discouraging for all of us workers.

The HR Manager prioritizes hiring only her relatives. Whether they are skilled or unskilled, experienced or not, she assigns all of her relatives to favorable positions.

Instead of starting from the bottom, some are directly placed into good positions like Quality Control (QC), while truly capable individuals are overlooked despite having no experience. This is completely unjust.

Another issue is that our factory’s worker representative in the WCC is a sewing line worker. We don't even know on what basis this person was promoted. She was promoted all the way to a supervisor position. But according to standard procedures, promotions should happen step by step.

New workers are hired without being informed that they are on a probationary period. Then, without any warning, they are suddenly dismissed. They are told, “Come collect your wages tomorrow,” and immediately terminated. Shortly after such dismissals, the HR Manager’s relatives are appointed as replacements. These are practices that should not be tolerated.

When selecting people for leadership roles, the HR Manager only chooses people who align with her and follow her will. Those who stand up for workers never get promoted. As a result, only her favorites are promoted, while truly qualified people are denied opportunity for advancement.

Whenever we report issues or problems in the workplace, the HR Manager responds with, “Consider the company’s side as well.” One time, when ferry cars failed to drop workers off at the correct gate and they had to walk through heavy rain, we reported it. The response was just to slightly adjust the ferry fare. That’s not a reasonable solution for us workers.

All of us workers are experiencing these injustices daily. There are over 500 workers at the factory, and everyone is aware of what’s going on. However, no one dares to speak out for fear of losing their jobs. We feel we have no one to rely on.

Therefore, we sincerely request the factory manager to thoroughly investigate these matters. Please take fair and appropriate actions so that workers can continue working in peace.

Thank you.
