Workers at J&F Myanmar LNY Caps hat factory report that they are being forced to work more than 90 hours of overtime within a single month. They also said that managers pressure workers who refuse to do overtime by calling them into meetings and confronting them.

"If we don’t do overtime, they scold us. The manager summons those who don’t want to work extra and holds meetings, saying things like, ‘Will you work OT or quit?’ We can’t even give a reason for refusing. They force us to work overtime against our will," said a female worker.

Workers report that they are usually required to do three hours of overtime a day without any proper break after regular work ends. Additionally, they are often made to work until 6:30 PM every Saturday and sometimes on Sundays as well.

"We’ve been working overtime for two consecutive months. Right now, we’re made to work until 7:30 PM, with no breaks in between. They still make us work on Sundays even after requiring us to work overtime. Last month, I worked over 90 hours of OT," another worker shared.

The factory’s regular working hours are from 8 AM to 4:30 PM. Workers are expected to stay until 6:30 or 7:30 PM if they are required to work overtime. However, workers said the factory manager enters the production line and scolds those who arrive early in the morning if they are not seen working.

"Working hours start at 8 AM. But even when we arrive at 6:30 or 7 AM and wait to start, we get shouted at if we’re not working right away. That’s just not right," a worker said.

The factory, located in Hlaingthaya Industrial Zone, is still paying only 6,800 kyats per day, workers said. Additionally, they allege that management applies pressure on certain workers to resign.

"They find all kinds of reasons to scold and pressure a worker to leave if they don’t want them anymore. They push them to resign because they don’t want to officially fire them and have to pay compensation," explained one worker.

J&F Myanmar LNY Caps Co., Ltd is reportedly operating near Bogyoke Bus-stop, Industrial Zone 2, Hlaingthaya Township, Yangon.
