Workers at Myanmar Handsome garment factory, located on Inwa Road, Yangon’s East Dagon Township, report that new employees are being forced to pay illegal fees under various pretexts when joining the factory.

"Right now, they're collecting 20,000 kyats from each new worker, saying it's for organizing events," one worker said.

Despite repeated media reports about such collections, some responsible persons continue the practice under different names instead of stopping it.

"The factory has previously taken between 50,000 to 70,000 kyats from new workers using the name of 'agency fees.' They’re still doing it even after that made the news, ," said another worker.

In addition to these illegal deductions, many workers also report that they have yet to receive their Social Security Board (SSB) cards, despite monthly SSB contributions being deducted from their wages.

"I’ve worked for over two years and still haven’t received mine. Some have worked for three or four years and still don’t have it either," said a female worker.

Myanmar Handsome is known to mainly produce garments for the LCW brand and employs around 1,500 workers, according to sources.
