GYSEN (Myanmar) Apparel Co., Ltd. factory officials are violating the Labor Organization Law and the EC contract, according to workers.

The Finishing Department supervisor and an iron leader at the factory have been verbally abusing, discriminating against, and monitoring members of the Gysen garment workers’ basic labor organization, sources said.

The labor organization law under Chapter 7, Article 29, and Chapter 12, Article 49, as well as the EC contract under Article 17 (1,3), Annex (A), 12, and 14, have been violated, according to the STUM organization.

On January 17, the line leader confronted workers over an ironing issue, verbally abused them, sought conflict, and transferred some workers to different departments. The leader also allegedly used derogatory language against workers in the ironing section.

"They said they will fire anyone who is not a good enough for the department. I have no fear in my life. They said they don’t care about anyone and neither their parents if they are right," the leader reportedly said, according to a worker.

Later, workers were summoned to the department supervisor's office and were told they would receive a warning, but there was no disciplinary action taken against the leader, sources said. Workers from the QA department also reported being confronted by the same leader. On January 18, some workers were transferred under the pretext of business needs.

Since 2024, GYSEN (Myanmar) Apparel officials have been monitoring and discriminating against the factory’s basic labor organization. Some leaders and members of the organization have even been dismissed, according to reports.

GYSEN (Myanmar) Apparel is located at Wartayar Industrial Zone, Wartayar Road, Shwe Pyi Thar Township, Yangon. Currently, the factory employs around 700 workers and manufacture the Velilla brand.
