We are workers from Factory No. 4 in Hmawbi, General Textile factory. We would like to report that the factory is requiring us to work overtime during the upcoming Union Day holidays and is not granting any closure.
Although February 12, 13, and 14 were officially announced as public holidays, we are required to work on those days. Even on Union Day, the factory does not close.
Other factories are closed, and some factories are even closed for six consecutive days. However, our factory does not grant these holidays and is forcing us to work overtime.
We are not allowed to refuse. We are compelled to work on both overtime days. Even on Saturday, the 14th, gate passes are not granted. From Monday to Friday, we must work regular overtime until 6:30 p.m. On Saturdays, we work until 4:30 p.m.
Supervisors scold us if we do not work overtime. Other factories pay 50,000 or 60,000 kyats for the attendance bonus, but our factory still pays only 30,000 kyats. The factory manager is a Chinese national. Our factory does not grant a holiday even on Union Day, when all other factories close.
We respectfully request assistance.
