A fire broke out at Nisho (Myanmar Yangon Richang Apparel Co., Ltd. (NISHO)) garment factory at around 9 p.m. on April 29, according to reports.

The factory, located at No. 230, Phanchet U Myuu Street, in Shwe Lin Ban Industrial Zone, Hlaing Thar Yar (West) Township, Yangon, employs over 800 workers.

“It’s the Nisho garment factory. A large number of fabric rolls were burned since it’s a garment factory. Fortunately, none of the workers were harmed. The fire reportedly started from a loose connection at a power outlet,” said a firefighter at the scene.

The fire broke out in a single-story factory building, spreading from a loose connection in a security power plug to nearby fabric rolls. It took about an hour to extinguish the fire.

To control the blaze, authorities deployed 11 fire engines, 15 water tankers, one support vehicle, one command vehicle, and over 130 firefighters, according to Myanmar’s Fire Services Department.

The factory, which produces garments for export to Europe and Japan, suffered the loss of approximately 100 fabric rolls in the fire. It has been reported that a case has been filed against the factory manager.
