Workers report that Dong Yu factory requires them to work overtime until 11 PM while factory officials have stated that they do not take responsibility for worker safety. The garment factory is located in Mya Sein Yaung Industrial Zone and employs around 1,000 workers.

Workers said, "We are still working until 11 PM. They will turn off the lights and tell us to hide for our safety if security patrols come to inspect while working overtime. They say they won’t take responsibility if we get caugh. They are the ones making us work overtime, yet they take no responsibility at all. There is no security, so no one wants to work. But they pressure us into it, and we can’t refuse. Working late makes it difficult to sleep and shower in the morning. Doing this every day has left us exhausted. Also, managers warn us that if we talk to each other, they will deduct our wages."

Factory officials have started monitoring workers through CCTV after complaints were made about the factory’s late-night overtime requirements.

A worker said, "The office is now monitoring us through CCTV and yelling at us through microphones due to the complaints about overtime. They have also assigned people to patrol around the production line. We heard that the issue is being discussed in the office, but they are still making us work overtime.”

Workers also claim that the factory’s line managers treat supervisors and workers differently and that they shout at workers while forcing them to work. Dong Yu factory is a Chinese national-owned factory that manufactures for the WindCore brand.
