Dismissed workers facing pay cut

It is reported that factories and workshops do not pay the workers who resign fully wages and legal benefits. The workers said that they are facing difficulties to cover their expenses due to this.

Resigned workers from Chinese national owned  LAT WAR (3) COMPANY LIMITED which locates at Industrial Zone (2), Seik Kan Thar Street, Hlaing Thar Yar Township said that the factory didn’t pay their wages fully.    

The workers said that although there are workplace coordination committee in the factory which manufactures KAPALUA, REGATA and MAVI CONIN’s, they cannot address the workplace disputes.

The working hours are from 8:00 am to 6:30 pm including 2 hours of overtime and they got paid 70,000 kyats for A+, 60,000 kyats for A, 50,000 kyats for A-, 40,000 kyats for B, 30,000 kyats for B-, 20,000 kyats for C, 10,000 kyats for C- as expert fees and daily wages 4,800 kyats, attendance bonus 20,000 kyats, stipend 1,000 kyats per day and 1,200 kyats per hour for overtime. But the workers who resigned were not paid expert fees and attendance bonus.

The workers said that they want to get paid as they worked around 18 to 20 days and they deserve the expert fees and attendance bonus.

“They are exploiting us. We don’t even earn 300,000 kyats after working the whole month tirelessly. We can’t cover the expenses for our families. Some worked for more than 20 days but they didn’t even get paid 150,000 kyats. The factory said due to their system. The amount of pay cut is not a big deal for the employer but the survival one for us,” said a worker.

Recently, we also reported daily wages, attendance bonus, overtime fees and expert fees pay cut of Chinese national owned SHUNRONG GRAMENTS MYANMAR which locates at Shwe Li Street, Hlaing Thar Yar Township, Yangon region to the workers who resigned in the previous.

The factory which is operating with more than 500 workers are manufacturing PROTECTIVE, INDUSTRIAL and PRODUCTS brands. The working hours are from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm including 2 hours of overtime and workers get paid 4,800 kyats for daily wages, 1,000 kyats for attendance bonus, 1,400 kyats per hour for overtime, 30,000 kyats attendance bonus, 45,000 kyats for A level, 30,000 kyats for B level and 10,000 kyats for C level as expert fees.

Workers said that those who resigned in February and March were not paid attendance bonus and expert fee on the grounds that they don’t work for the whole month.

Workers are leaving the workplace due to not getting paid well, economic crisis in the country after the coup and the conscription law. And the human rights and labor rights activist said that not giving the workers their full wages is a type of exploitation.
