Chinese national own factory Hige Fashion Accessories Myanmar Co.,ltd which is manufacturing H&M and POKEMON brand fabrics dismissed 50 day laborers without any reason after being reported for labor right abuses,

More than 200 of more than 400 workers are day laborers with services of 3 months to 8 months. The workers requested to appoint them as permanent stuffs and not to ask fabric outputs which exceeds the workers’ productivity.

“The day laborers neither can’t contribute to the social security or access benefits related to it. They do not get Thingyan long term holidays and the worst is they are fired if there is fewer tasks and rehired if there are some tasks to do,” said the worker from the factory.

The labor activist said that Myanmar Labour laws stipulated that day laborers and tap system laborers can access the same benefits as the permanent laborers but in reality, the factory are hiring the day laborers without giving access to legal benefits, social security, legal leaves and firing them with ease.

A worker said that the factory fired more than 50 laborers with 3 months to 8 months of service without any reason after Myanmar Labour News have reported the workplace violations of January and they are seeking help to resolve the issue.

‘The employer fired the day laborers without any reasons. We want resolvent upon that as it is an illegal action,” said the worker.

The workers said they want to request to employe back the dismissed day laborers and no to fire illegally.
