The Confederation of Trade Unions Myanmar (CTUM) has announced that any individual or organization using its name, logo, flag, proprietary symbols, or assets without official approval from the Central Committee will face legal action under both domestic and international laws.

The announcement was made on February 14, 2025, in response to unauthorized usage of CTUM’s name by individuals and groups aligning with the military regime. CTUM stated that it will pursue legal measures to prevent misuse of its identity and intellectual property.

"The military junta has issued arrest warrants under Section 124(A) of the Penal Code (High Treason) for all members of CTUM’s legitimately elected Second Congress Central Committee. Additionally, they have revoked the passports of Central Committee members and have formally canceled the Myanmar citizenship of CTUM President U Maung Maung, notifying international embassies of these actions," the statement reads.

CTUM also accused the military council of manipulating the labor movement to counter the ILO’s Article 33 economic sanctions by portraying itself as worker-friendly, while at the same time issuing arrest warrants for legitimate labor leaders and misusing CTUM’s name for its benefit.

The Industrial Workers Federation of Myanmar (IWFM) also issued a statement on January 30, 2025, listing the names of individuals and groups who have been illegally using the CTUM name and logo despite having resigned from the confederation.

CTUM has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting its integrity and holding accountable those who misuse its identity.
