Workers at Create Beauty (Myanmar) Knitted Factory say they are only given two days off per month and face dismissal if they refuse to work overtime. Many workers report being required to work on Sundays, with those who decline being verbally scolded by supervisors.
“Sundays off aren’t even given every other week. We got only two day offs per month and its unbearable in long-term. We have to work if the orders are urgent — that’s what the leaders tell us. Some workers who didn’t come on Sundays have already been dismissed,” said a factory worker.
Daily working hours run from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., including 3 hours of overtime each weekday and 5 hours on Saturdays. Workers noted that Sunday overtime is also frequently required, pushing their hours beyond standard overtime limits.
“Since after Thingyan, they’ve been calling us in almost every Sunday due to so-called urgent orders. The whole factory is called in. The supervisors scold those who don’t show up. There’s no formal process or signature for this Sunday overtime. It’s exhausting to work every week, and there’s no clear end in sight,” said another employee.
Although the official start time is 7:30 a.m., workers report being made to start tasks earlier, often skipping breakfast due to the schedule.
