The case of labour rights activist Daw Myo Myo Aye and her group, who are currently under detention, was heard on September 15 and has been rescheduled for further hearing on September 22, according to a statement from the Solidarity Trade Union of Myanmar (STUM).
The case is being examined at the Shwepyithar Township Court, where Daw Myo Myo Aye and 10 other members were arrested. The court is proceeding with the charges under Sections 40 and 41 of the Law Relating to Registration of Associations, filed by plaintiff U Thiha Naing.
The next court date was set for September 22 since the hearing was not concluded. Daw Myo Myo Aye and her fellow members were arrested in July and had previously applied for bail during the September hearings, but the bail requests were denied.
Daw Myo Myo Aye, a prominent labor activist, is reportedly suffering from hypertension and diabetes. Although she currently has access to some medication for her diabetes, she is being denied daily blood sugar level monitoring.
In addition, she is said to be suffering from severe dental issues, according to STUM.
Daw Myo Myo Aye, who leads STUM, was arrested by the junta on the night of July 25 from her home. Her daughter and other STUM members were also subsequently arrested between July 26 and 28.
Daw Myo Myo Aye and the group were brought before the Shwepyithar Township Court on August 18, where they were formally charged under Section 5(1)(f)(dg of the Law on the Management of Public Assembly and Procession. They were then transferred to the women’s hall at Insein Prison, as stated in STUM announcement.
