Best Garment garment factory has dismissed a worker without providing a reason, according to reports. The worker, who had six months of service, was terminated on grounds of EC contract violation, the Solidarity Trade Union of Myanmar (STUM) said.

“Ma Win Mar Oo, who had been working as a sewing operator on Line-1 for around six months, was dismissed on June 2 without any clear reason. She was accused of breaching her EC contract and terminated without fault,” they said.

The dismissed worker, Ma Win Mar Oo, submitted a complaint to the Township Labour Relations Department, and three rounds of mediation have already taken place. A factory manager representing Best Garment attended the mediations, according to reports.

“The manager claimed she was dismissed due to dissatisfaction with her workplace performance. They also stated she would not be reinstated,” STUM reported.

The worker is requesting action under Article 39 of the Employment and Skills Development Law due to the dismissal, and is demanding reinstatement with her original salary, position, workplace, and service years. Authorities from the township labour office have stated that submissions regarding her demands are being processed and further steps will be taken, STUM added.

Best Garment (Myanmar) Co., Ltd is located on Karen Chaung Kwin Road in Shwepyithar Township, Yangon.
