Beaume International Garment factory workers stopped working to collectively demand

More than 400 workers from Beaume International Garment factory which locates at Phan Chat Wun U Shwe Oo Street, Industrial Zone 2, Hlaing Thar Yar Township have stopped working to collectively demand.

There are two factories inside the same yard; eaume International Garment and POPULAR International Garment and workers are having to work for both factories without workers’ rights and benefits which leads them toward the deamnds.

They are demanding to recognize their experiences at Popular Garment factory and to give them legal benefits.

“We negotiated at the meditation court since February and they told that they would separate the workers for each factory at April but actually they don’t until now. Workers from Popular Garment Factory have stopped working and won’t go back to work if they don’t separate us for each factory,” the worker said.

“There was no Beaume when they recircuit. There was only Popular factory. But they hired under the title of Beaume later. The meditation court said that they would sue them if they don’t separate the workers for each factory. We are having to work for both factories but only get paid for one,” the worker said.

The Beaume factory locates in the same yard with Popular Garment factory since 2020 and make the workers to work for both factories since last 3 years.

The most senior workers have worked there for more than 20 years but the salary is only 280,000 kyats.

Workers from POPULAR INTERNATIONAL GARMENT factory wants to know that in which factory whether they have to work permanently. The previous service from other factories are also not counted from the workers. The factory called police while workers and employers negotiated for resolve and it doesn’t finish until 9:00 pm.

The factory is owned by a Chinese national and manufacturing ITURRI, TOPTEX PRO, TOPTEXSPORT, OUTDOOR , COOLWORK BY ITUIRRI , ROYALWAY, tom tompson, Beaume and Ellenor brands jackets, warm clothes, trousers and jean pants with more than 1,100 workers.

“The supervisors said that they will replace us with other workers if we don’t go back to work. And they also said they are just following the factory’s orders. And we also say that we understand that we don’t get paid if we don’t work. We have told them to separate the workers for more than 2 times but it didn’t work. This happened even before the coup. They will hire under the title of Beaume in the future and we are demanding it to prevent further damages,” the worker said.
