I am an employee at Alpine Purified Water.
We are being pressured to work overtime during the five-day Thingyan holiday period (Pre-Festival Day, Main Festival Days, and New Year’s Day).
I would like to know where we can seek help.
We were already forced to work overtime on Sunday this April.
Now, we’re being pressured again to work extra hours during all five Thingyan days.
We are being threatened with exclusion from future salary increases or promotions if we refuse to work overtime.
Most of the staff here are from outside regions, and some have already purchased bus tickets to go home for the holidays. Many of the employees are facing difficulties.
They forced us to sign under the heading “Thingyan Holidays” for April 18, 19, 20, and 21 Even when they submitted overtime requests to the Labour Office.
Workers are afraid of losing their jobs if they don’t comply with these overtime demands.
For all Myanmar workers, the Thingyan holiday is a dream. This long break is the only time we can truly rest and enjoy after working hard the whole year,.
Please help us.
The main pressure comes from the owner.
Managers and supervisors, who cannot go against him, are also pressuring us to work during the holidays.
We trust Myanmar Labour News as a media outlet that supports workers At a time when Myanmar civil servants and the general public are already facing hardships,.
