Myanmar Sunway slipper factory workers want to know if the factory would close

Workers from Chinese national owned Myanmar Sunway slipper factory which locates at Kyan Sitt Thar Street, expended industrial zone, South Dagon Myo Thit, Yangon said that the factory is calling them both substitute days and overtime without having any ordered fabrics.

The factory assign them to work with unused fabrics to make slippers and the 2 Chinese national among 5 remaining will go back to China in April.

“We want to know if the factory would close down after Thingyan, people are saying that it is going to close soon and we are worried. The factory is also dismissing workers with notice including the Nurse,” the worker said.

There will be only 147 workers left if the current workers who received notice will leave at the end of the month. As the nurse was dismissed, there is no medicines and the factory does not buy it anymore.

“We have no one to rely for certain circumstances as the worker leaders are appointed by the factory and we want to know how the HR would take care of the matter,” the worker said.

According to the workers the factory is operating with 200 workers currently and manufacturing JSK PVC and XSW PVC brands. The workplace coordination committee is formed only with selected workers by  the factory.
