Myanmar Bestex Garment factory calling for excessive overtime including Saturdays and Sundays, continue to call all night overtimes after the inspection

Workers from Myanmar Bestex Garment factory said that the factory is calling overtime excessively and nothing was changed although the inspectors came as they report rapidly. 

The workers said that they are even memorizing the names of the inspectors and they said they are U Zaw Zaw Lat and U Kyi Lin from Township Factory and General Labor Law Inspection Department, they failed to take action on the violations of the factory. The managers even said that they can bribe them,” said the workers.

The workers said that the normal working hours are from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm but they worked until min night and until 8:00 pm on Saturday, 6:00 pm, 7:00 pm, 8:00 pm on Sundays and until 5:00 pm, 6:00 pm in paydays. Workers from QC and Packing departments have to work until 1:00 am since 6th of April and a seamstress cavity had to work until midnight on April 8.

The workers said that they can’t take casual leaves as every benefits entitled to them are cut for that. For seniority leaves they neither get leaves or get paid for that.

“We could go back at 5:00 pm only because the inspectors came but we have to work until midnight as usual after that. They are continously calling mid night overtimes right now. The manager Ma Thander and Ma Khaing Thazin Htun said that they will blacklist us to not be able to apply at any job if we resign. We are seeking help,” the workers said.

Myanmar Bestex Garment Co., Ltd is a factory that is reported every year because of violations against workers. The workers said that there are briberies in the factory.
